Gerard Butler’s sci-fi post-apocalyptic sequel, which was a critical and commercial failure, has found huge success on streaming. It now occupies the #1 spot on HBO Max movie charts, beating the original film and Margot Robbie’s Wuthering Heights.
Greenland 2: Migration tops HBO Max charts
Greenland 2: Migration holds the top spot on HBO Max charts as of May 12, 2026, according to FlixPatrol. The first movie, 2020’s Greenland, occupies the second spot. The other entries on the list are Wuthering Heights, Marty Supreme, 2021’s Mortal Kombat, Elevation, The Devil Wears Prada, 1995’s Mortal Kombat, Crazy Rich Asians, and Saltburn.
Notably, the data from FlixPatrol isn’t necessarily complete, but it does give a broader picture.
Released on January 9, 2026, Greenland 2: Migration made $44.8 million at the global box office (via Box Office Mojo). The movie currently has a 48% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This denotes that it has received more negative reviews from the approved outlets and critics than positive ones. However, ComingSoon’s Jonathan Sim gave Greenland 2: Migration a mostly favorable review.
“Ultimately, Greenland 2: Migration is a well-crafted, often gripping sequel that understands what made the original work, even if it doesn’t fully replicate its impact,” Sim wrote. “The post-apocalyptic setting is less immediately relatable than the real-time collapse of society, and the intensity is more uneven as a result. But strong performances, effective set pieces, and a clear commitment to keeping its characters perpetually at risk make this a worthy continuation of the story.”
The Greenland movies revolve around John Garrity (Butler), a structural engineer, and his family. In the first movie, they race against a planet-destroying comet heading toward Earth to reach safety. In the sequel, they struggle to survive in the aftermath and head out in search of a habitable place amid radioactive fallout and earthquakes. The first one has garnered a 78% Rotten Tomatoes approval score.
