Fayetteville Mayor Mitch Colvin said during an interview Wednesday with the Weather Channel that the city is prepared for Tropical Storm Debby.

“We’ve had our fair share of these rain events and we’ve learned from experience,” Colvin told Weather Channel meteorologist Alex Wallace from the banks of the Cape Fear River. “The city’s been very proactive this time. Our low-lying areas, we’re making sure we create barriers … to keep people from passing into hazardous areas. We’re notifying our residents, making sure the communication is high, making sure people take this seriously.”

Wallace, an on-camera meteorologist with the Weather Channel, said in a video posted on Facebook that the Cape Fear River, which was at 14 feet earlier Wednesday, was expected to crest at 50 feet Saturday.
