Elderly Hong Kong man in wheelchair at train station falls off platform onto tracks
An elderly man has narrowly escaped death after accidentally reversing the wheelchair he was on off a train platform at a station in New Territories.
The 73-year-old man was waiting for a train at Tai Hing (North) light rail stop on Tai Fong Street in Tuen Mun at around 5.30am on Monday when the accident occurred.
A source familiar with the matter said the wheelchair-bound man tumbled onto the tracks along with his wheelchair when moving backward on the platform.
According to a police spokeswoman, the injured man was discovered by a passer-by who called police. The victim was injured in the head but remained conscious.
Emergency personnel rescued the man from the tracks and transported him to Tuen Mun Hospital for medical treatment, she added.
The insider said: “The victim told officers it was an accident, he had no intention of committing suicide.”
According to police, the light rail service was disrupted for about five minutes.
