Audi Reveals E7X SUV For Its China Only EV Brand

Ever since Audi launched its China-only AUDI sister brand in November 2024, the company has been trying to prove it can move faster and think more locally in the world’s biggest EV market. That effort took its next major step in Beijing with the full reveal of the new E7X, the brand’s second production model and its first SUV.

This is not just another electric crossover with a familiar badge. The E7X is one of the clearest signs yet that Audi now sees China as a market that requires its own products, its own software priorities, and even its own brand identity.

That is why the E7X matters beyond the vehicle itself. It arrives as Audi works to recover ground in a market where Chinese brands have become faster, cheaper, and more confident than many foreign rivals expected.

What Audi showed in Beijing, then, was not just a new SUV. It was a technology statement, and one aimed directly at buyers who now expect luxury, range, charging speed, and digital sophistication to come together in one seamless package.

A Large SUV Built Specifically For China

The E7X is a big vehicle by any standard. Audi says it measures 198.8 inches long, 78.6 inches wide, and 67.3 inches tall, with a 120.5-inch wheelbase, which puts it firmly in the large premium SUV class and gives it the kind of rear cabin space Chinese buyers continue to value.

It also rides on the Advanced Digitized Platform, or ADP, the China-specific architecture Audi developed with SAIC. That platform brings a zonal electronic setup, full vehicle over-the-air update capability, and deep integration with China’s digital ecosystem, all of which are central to the AUDI brand’s reason for existing in the first place.

Audi is also using the E7X to push a more dramatic design language than its global EVs usually wear. The company says the SUV carries the AUDI Light Frame, more than 1,000 triangular light elements, and a black loop front and rear graphic that hides sensors, lamps, and aero functions in one continuous surface.

Strong Numbers, Fast Charging, Real Range

Underneath, the E7X uses a 900-volt electrical system and comes in two versions. The rear-wheel-drive model makes 402 hp, while the dual-motor Quattro version jumps to 670 hp and can reach 62 mph in 3.9 seconds.

Battery choices are 100 kWh or 109 kWh, and Audi says the larger pack delivers more than 466 miles of CLTC range. As always, that Chinese test cycle tends to be more generous than U.S. EPA ratings would be, but it still signals that Audi is aiming for headline numbers strong enough to matter in China’s brutally competitive premium EV space.

Charging may be the biggest technical selling point of all. Audi says 4C fast charging can take the battery from 10% to 80% in just 13 minutes, which places the E7X among the quickest-charging luxury EVs now on the market. That is exactly the kind of figure Chinese buyers increasingly expect when domestic brands are already pushing hard on both charging performance and digital convenience.

The Cabin Is the Real Luxury Pitch

Inside, the E7X is less about traditional German restraint and more about a high-tech lounge experience tailored to local tastes. Audi says the cabin uses a curved 27-inch 4K panoramic display across the front, plus a touch-sensitive control bar on the console, while rear passengers can get a 21.4-inch entertainment screen that drops from the headliner.

The rear seat story is especially important. Audi will offer both a five-seat family layout and a four-seat executive configuration, with the latter using zero-gravity rear seats that recline up to 120 degrees, supported by a 23-airbag pneumatic system and 16-point massage functions. Bose audio with up to 26 speakers, open-pore wood, and fine Nappa leather push the E7X even further into luxury SUV territory.

Audi is also leaning heavily on local software partnerships. The AI-powered AUDI Assistant 2.0 was custom developed with ByteDance, while the lidar-based AUDI 360 Driving Assist system was co-developed with Momenta and tuned specifically for Chinese urban traffic and highway conditions. Volkswagen Group has already said Level 3 highly automated driving is planned for the E7X, which would make it the first Audi to move in that direction.

More Than Just One New Model

The E7X also arrives with some pressure on its shoulders. Reuters reported that the E5 Sportback, the first AUDI model, has sold about 10,000 units since September 2025, with sales rebounding to 2,630 in March after a weaker start earlier this year. That means the E7X is not just expanding the lineup but helping Audi prove that this China-specific strategy can actually gain traction.

Audi says the E7X will launch in the first half of 2026, and a third AUDI model, a fully electric sedan, is already scheduled to debut in 2027. Taken together, those moves show that the company is not treating the new brand as a side experiment but as a serious parallel product line designed to compete on China’s terms.

That is what makes the E7X so important. It is not simply an Audi built for China. It is a reminder that in today’s EV market, even a legacy premium brand may need a separate identity, a separate architecture, and a separate digital philosophy if it wants to stay relevant where the pace of change is now fastest.
