The floral-accented shoes feel completely disconnected from the dress, almost like they belong to another look entirely. At this point, her style needs a reset.

Zawe Ashton clearly favours this silhouette, and to her credit, she consistently finds strong versions of it. This Huishan Zhang tulle tiered gown, accented with feathers, is another confident entry in that lineup, it plays to her strengths without feeling repetitive.

Helen Mirren’s Erdem ensemble feels more BAFTA Tea Party than awards ceremony, but there’s no denying how well it’s put together. The black pumps might have felt heavy-handed, were it not for the black floral embroidery tying everything together. It’s one of those looks where the details quietly do the work. David Morris jewels completed her look.

I love how the polka-dot tie injects Paul Smith’s signature charm into Ambika Mod’s suit. It’s a small detail, but it shifts the entire look, giving classic tailoring a bit more attitude.

Staying On Brand

Aaron Pierre, of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, continued his close-protection aesthetic in this BOSS suit, complete with shades. It’s becoming something of a signature, and he’s sticking to it.

Velvet With Seasonal Overtones

As much as I appreciate David Harewood’s style, this dunhill velvet Bourdon double-breasted jacket feels a touch too festive for this setting – more winter gala than spring awards night.

Reliable, If Predictable

Tom Hiddleston’s Ralph Lauren velvet doesn’t lean quite as festive as David’s, but for someone usually so in tune with season, I would have expected a lighter fabric. That said, he looks good regardless, as this silhouette rarely fails him.

Recognisable House Codes

Paapa Essiedu, who took home Best Actor in a Supporting Role for All My Sons, wore a Louis Vuitton suit, instantly recognisable thanks to the flared trousers, finished neatly with Cartier pins.
