A man arrested for stealing HK$36,000 (US$4,595) from a Hong Kong bank pointed a gun-like object at staff and hammered the counter glass during the two-minute raid, while a teller hid under a desk and her colleague placed cash into a bag for the suspect, according to the surveillance footage.
Police received a report at 12.26pm after a man robbed a branch of Bank of East Asia in Harbour View Centre before fleeing the scene on a bicycle.
Officers arrested the suspect at Wan Tsui Shopping Centre in Chai Wan 90 minutes later.
A source said the suspect, wearing a black hat, black T-shirt and mask, brandished a hammer and a suspected firearm during the robbery and smashed the bank counter’s glass.
According to a video circulating online, believed to be the branch’s surveillance footage, a person dressed in black held a gun-like object and pointed it at staff behind a counter.
A staff member knelt and hid under the counter, while two others inside the premises either left the scene or hid behind walls.
