Whether you’re after slim or stout, bold or blending into the background, these are the best Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra cases worth your money right now.

The S26 Ultra finally supports Qi2 wireless charging, but it doesn’t have magnets built into the phone itself. So, you’ll have to buy a magnetic case to actually take advantage of auto-aligned charging or hot-swap from kickstand to charger to wallet to car mount.

Thankfully, case makers have been making magnetic Galaxy cases for years — I’ve been using them since my Galaxy S23, and my most-used Mous Limitless is back once again for the Galaxy S26 Ultra. There may be cheaper cases out there, but I keep coming back to the Walnut backplate time after time for both its in-hand feel and how well it’s taken dozens of drops over the last three years.

A thinner, more affordable option that won’t fall apart or start discoloring in a fortnight is the Ringke Onyx, available in both Magnetic and standard versions. My only complaint with either is a lack of color options. Dark Green hides wear without being as basic as black, but a deep purple or navy would’ve slayed with this generation’s colorways.

Purple cases that aren’t either blinding lavender or maudlin mauve have been few and far between for the S26 Ultra so far, but thankfully, Spigen at least got it right on its most popular case: the tried-and-true, two-layer Tough Armor MagFit. If only we’d seen a Grape Purple comeback for Spigen’s Nano Pop, it would’ve been perfect.

• Other textured backplates are available — leather, carbon fiber, and fabric — but the Walnut-backed Limitless offers the right blend of grip, style, and longevity. It also hits the magnetic sweet spot between too weak to stay on and too strong to swap out, giving a secure grip that won’t fight me when I’m trying to put it on the charger.

• The plastic embodiment of ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,’ Spigen eschews folding, spinning magnetic rings for a complete hidden MagFit array and a small, separate kickstand you can still use while wirelessly charging. The Ash Violet looks even more perfect than the S26 Ultra’s hue, but Abyss Green makes a fine alternative, too.

• Single-layer TPU cases may seem a dime a dozen, but Ringke nails the side grips better than most cases twice its price, and its back texture offers your palm purchase without getting smudgy. I wish we had a few more colors, but the lighter a TPU case, the more likely it is to discolor over time, so I understand Ringke’s aversion.

• The watchword of the heavy-duty UB Pro Mag is options: use a built-in screen protector or an empty front frame for tempered glass and S Pen, MagSafe mounts, or the wide kickstand built in below its ring, plastic or leather, and snap it in the old-school holster or slip it in your pocket. Leather almost doubles the price in exchange for a less rugged, more handsome look.

• Proving Torras’s prowess with a twirling magnetic ring kickstand once again, the Q3 Air brings some translucent Game Boy flair to the Galaxy S26 Ultra alongside opaque side panels to help cut glare from sidelights that some cases suffer. I’m partial to Glacial Sprint, but Violet Surge is among the better purple S26 Ultra cases I’ve seen so far.

• With thousands of licensed designs — from Bridgerton to One Piece to Winnie the Pooh — Casetify’s Mirror Magnetic Series opens a new world of depth and beauty for your S26 Ultra, hiding the ring and leaving your art on full display. Casetify’s sorting options aren’t helpful when a new phone launches, so the filter menu and search bar are your friends.

• 25-foot drop protection, multi-textured grip, and a hexagonal magnetic ring make the Monarch Pro as functional as its color-matched Kevlar makes it ruggedly handsome. You can save a few bucks with the Titanium or Crimson Monarch Pro, if needed, but Kevlar has better options like Mallard blue and a surprisingly tasteful Burnt Orange.

• If you need a name brand everyone and their mother-in-law recognizes, skip the overblown Defender Series and get some flair with the Sole Series, named for its sneaker inspirations blended with tactical textiles. The included ‘finger loop’ can feel small on larger limbs, but it’s nice to see one included and matched to each of the three colorways.

Does the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra need a case?

While lighter than last year’s model, the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is still quite a sizable phone — especially for those of us with small hands — and starts at $1,299. The aluminum frame and Gorilla Glass front and back should be able to take small drops and dings in its stride, but unless you’ve got insurance on your phone, do you really want to be out hundreds of dollars for a new screen?

Or over a thousand for a new phone entirely if the Ultra slips out of your summer sweat-drenched hands and straight to the bottom of the bay? Even a basic case adds the option of attaching a lanyard, a grip like PopSockets or Clckr, or a floating phone strap for those fishing trips and tubing flotillas down the river.

Even if you’re as big a shut-in as I am, the added grip and/or built-in ring of a good case can make a world of difference in holding your phone comfortably and avoiding repetitive stress injuries from straining your thumb across that 6.9-inch screen. Laugh now; my left pinky has been yelling at me since noon for typing with it after propping up phones with it for hours a day throughout my 20s and into my 30s.

You can’t use those MagSafe PopSockets or Qi2 magnetic chargers without a case, either, which is all the more reason to cover up your naked phone.

Can I use Qi2 wireless charging without a case?

Technically speaking, Qi2 isn’t just a magnetic wireless charging system; it’s the Wireless Power Consortium’s standard for a wide variety of wireless charging types and protocols. What we care about in Qi2 is the Magnetic Power Profile, which is the array of magnets that automatically aligns your phone on the charger to ensure you don’t miss the coils when you set it down to charge.

Because Samsung has Qi2 support on board, it can achieve faster speeds and more efficient charging protocols, something Android phones haven’t previously been able to do, even when they’re paired with a magnetic case. And if you position the Galaxy S26 Ultra very, very carefully, you could charge it on a Qi2 charger, but you wouldn’t be able to ensure it stays in the sweet spot.

So, while it is possible to do, you’ll want a magnetic case to keep things quick and consistent.

What should I look for in a Galaxy S26 Ultra case?

Apart from the normal concerns of drop protection and an adequate lip around both the screen and camera module, I’d caution Galaxy S26 Ultra buyers to look at the cutouts around the S Pen slot. Manufacturers can’t fully protect the bottom corner of the phone without making it harder to insert and remove the pen, so they have to strike a balance between security and usability.

If you don’t use the S Pen much, you may not mind a more robust corner, but if you’re always sketching or making precision moves in your merge games, you’ll need to pay extra attention to finding your Goldilocks or port protection.

For S Pen fanatics and gamers, you’ll want to pay a little extra attention to the height and slope of the case’s lip around the screen. Too shallow a lip won’t protect it from face-first drops —or worse, let the phone slip out of the case completely — but too deep an insert can prevent consistent edge tap target touches and corner strokes when sketching.

Are there Galaxy S26 Ultra cases without magnets?

The S Pen has traditionally had some issues with some extra-strong magnetic cases, or maybe you just want to keep using your old flat chargers. In either event, yes, non-magnetic cases still exist, but you’ll need to look a little harder to find them.

Of the cases on this list, only the Snakehive Vintage Wallet lacks a magnetic ring, but some have non-magnetic versions available, like the Ringke Onyx and the Supcase UB Pro. Spigen has a handful of non-magnetic cases — the Liquid Air and the Slim Armor CS card case — and at this time, it appears OtterBox only has one leather, embroidered Symmetry Series case without magnets.

Things have essentially flipped from last year, when most companies had one or two magnetic cases, and the rest were non-magnetic. Unless you have non-magnetic wireless chargers in every room of the house — magnetic cases are not compatible with non-magnetic chargers — I’d recommend going with a magnetic case and slowly replacing the chargers with Qi2-certified models.

Will a Galaxy S26 Ultra fit in a Galaxy S25 Ultra case?

No, you cannot use older cases. Samsung redid the camera module and tweaked the corners of this phone, so even if you’re upgrading from last year’s model, you’ll need a new case. It’s very rare to see cases shared between models on Android, but we did see it last year with the ‘baby’ standard Galaxy S25 fitting S24 case models — even then, it didn’t work for every case due to a slightly thinner profile and a slight shift in the flash LED and buttons.
