Byron Washington, a junior offensive lineman for high school powerhouse DeSoto, created quite the buzz after sharing photos of himself during the Texas State High School Championship Game on Saturday.

The picture that got social-media users talking shows the 6ft 7in and 380-pound Washington towering over a defender as he grabs him by the shoulder pads for a block. The opposing player, Kaleb Walker of Summer Creek, is listed at 6ft 4in and 215 pounds.

‘This might be the most comical sports photo I’ve ever seen,’ another said.

‘Death. Taxes. A Texas UIL championship game featuring a player who could have started college ball two years ago,’ a third added.

Washington’s extensive growth began when he grew six inches in a month as a sixth-grader, according to The Athletic

The growth spurt took such a huge toll on Washington’s body and required surgery to prevent his growth plates from collapsing. He then underwent a procedure that put metal rods in his legs to strengthen them.

After recovering from the surgery, Washington returned to the field and began circulating scouting reports.

With one more year remaining in high school, he is currently listed as a three-star recruit with offers from Texas, Oregon and TCU.

The picture of Washington became the perfect summarization of the game as DeSoto steamrolled Summer Creek, 74-14, for their third state title. With the win, DeSoto completed their second undefeated season and improved to a 3-0 record in championship games.
