CHURCHVILLE, Pa. (WPVI) — The man charged with criminal homicide in the deaths of his parents and sister inside a Bucks County home allegedly admitted his role in the killings.

The suspect, 55-year-old Kevin Castiglia, is currently behind bars and is being held without bail.

The victims have been identified as 84-year-old Judith Castiglia and her 90-year-old husband, Fred, along with 53-year-old Deborah Castiglia.

The investigation began after Deborah Castiglia’s boyfriend visited her parents’ home on Heather Road in the Churchville section of Northampton Township at about 2:15 p.m. Monday.

The boyfriend said he saw Deborah’s car there, but saw no footprints in the snow that had fallen on Sunday.

He went to the house because, according to police, he had been trying to contact Deborah for several days but had been unable to reach her at her home.

According to court documents, Kevin Castiglia answered the door and at first said Deborah “probably went on vacation.”

Kevin Castiglia then opened the door with a knife in his hand and allegedly said, “Don’t ever come here again, or I will kill you,” the affidavit shows.

The boyfriend fled and called 911.

When officers arrived, police say Kevin Castiglia came to the door armed with two knives, and police believed at least one of them had blood on it.

He began “talking incoherently,” police said, and when asked about his family he allegedly pointed the knives at the officers.

Police say the officers used their tasers, but Kevin Castiglia pulled the taser probes out of his body, then closed and locked the door.

The South Central Emergency Response Team was called in, and they made entry into the home.

Once inside, they found a woman, believed to be Deborah, dead in the kitchen. Shortly thereafter, they found the other victims dead in a rear bedroom of the home.

Kevin Castiglia then barricaded himself inside a second floor bedroom. After a five-hour standoff, he was arrested and taken to the hospital.

Chopper 6 captured some of the activity through a window in the back of the home, showing a member of the emergency response team banging on what appeared to be a door inside a back room.

Once at the hospital, Kevin Castiglia allegedly told the doctor, “I hurt someone.”

Then, about two hours later, he told hospital staffers “I killed my parents in their sleep” and “I killed my sister when she found them,” according to the affidavit.

Once he was released from the hospital and taken back to police headquarters, investigators say Kevin Castiglia again confessed to stabbing Fred, Judith and Deborah Castiglia to death.

He was charged with criminal homicide, abuse of a corpse and multiple other offenses.

Investigators say they are not able to comment on a possible motive for the killings.

The D.A.’s office tells Action News that an attorney has not yet been appointed for Kevin Castiglia.

Bucks County District Attorney Joe Khan praised the “admirable efforts” and “heroic restraint” shown by Northampton Township police and the South Central Emergency Response Team.

“Despite being confronted by an armed individual, under excruciatingly difficult circumstances for roughly five hours in the bitter cold, officers utilized every tactical resource available to take the suspect into custody alive, preventing further tragedy,” Khan said.

He went on to say that this appears to be an isolated incident and there is no ongoing danger to the community.

Action News has learned Deborah taught in the Centennial School District for 26 years.

The district says crisis teams will be at Tennent High School and Klinger Middle School, where Deborah taught during her career.

The Bucks County DA’s Office has scheduled a news conference for 1 p.m. Wednesday.
