South Bend airport prepares for possible President Joe Biden visit

SOUTH BEND — The Tribune’s newsgathering partners at WNDU-TV are reporting that President Joe Biden might visit South Bend on Saturday, Oct. 5.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued a VIP Movement Notification for South Bend for Saturday on Wednesday and added the city to its calendar Thursday afternoon.

WNDU also reported that multiple sources had told the television station that law enforcement officials throughout St. Joseph County are preparing for the potential visit, which some sources said would be for a wedding or a reception not a political event.

A U.S. Air Force jet landed Thursday at South Bend International Airport and spent several hours on the tarmac there. As WNDU reported, that is consistent with what usually takes place ahead of a presidential visit.
