The third and final installment of a Marvel villain actor’s Amazon Prime Video show has received mixed critical reception upon its return. Several critics have highlighted the glaring flaws present in Good Omens Season 3, although some have viewed it positively. The divided views have resulted in a Rotten Tomatoes score much lower than that of its predecessors.
Good Omens Season 3 reviews are mixed
Reviews for David Tennant and Michael Sheen’s Good Omens Season 3, released as a single 90-minute special, are mixed, unlike its predecessors. Some critics view it as a disappointment, criticizing the script and execution in particular. However, others have found it a decent if not superb watch.
The Guardian‘s Jack Seale, in his review, called the third outing a “puzzling mess.” He added that the story had been shortened “to the point of incoherence.” Furthermore, he opined that the episode had “the biggest imbalance in TV history between dazzling cast and stale script.” However, he noted that the cast, particularly Sheen and Tennant, almost “[redeemed] it.”
Meanwhile, Tessa Smith (Mama’s Geeky), who had high hopes for the concluding chapter of the fantasy comedy, took issue with the subpar writing and pacing, although she praised the production design, costumes, and makeup. She wrote, “Good Omens 3 struggles to find its footing as a rushed finale. While the chemistry remains unmatched, the messy execution leaves much to be desired.”
However, Dais Johnson of Inverse viewed Good Omens Season 3 more positively, particularly praising the ending, which he said does “the fandom justice.” He added, “It’s the ending that this show, and this fandom, deserves, and even if it’ll go down in history with an asterisk at the end, it still could be one of the better series finales of recent years.”
Meanwhile, FandomWire‘s M.N. Miller said that the finale was worth watching for fans of the show. However, he also pointed out that it was “surprisingly accessible” to newcomers through a “concise two-minute summary.” In addition, he praised the comedy, CGI, and themes, along with the ending — which he said has “gravitas” — saying they all made the “send-off an immersive experience.”
Good Omens Season 3 Rotten Tomatoes score isn’t like Season 1 or 2
Good Omens Season 3 has scored a mediocre 60% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is based on 15 reviews.
This is lower than the approval ratings of Seasons 1 and 2. The former holds a “certified fresh” 85%. Meanwhile, the latter displays a higher 88%, which is also the highest for the series overall.
