Trump vs Harris: Bill Gates quietly enters political arena with $50million donation

Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft and one of the world’s wealthiest individuals, has reportedly privately contributed around $50 million to Future Forward, a nonprofit organization supporting vice president Kamala Harris’s bid for the presidency, according to a New York Times report.
This contribution signals a dramatic departure from his previous philanthropic strategy, where his public persona remained largely detached from direct political funding.
For years, Gates has been a prominent force in global health, poverty alleviation, and education through his philanthropic organization, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. This political donation, however, has been kept under wraps for months.
Future Forward operates as a 501(c)(4) nonprofit, or “dark money” group, meaning it isn’t required to disclose its donors publicly. Consequently, Gates’ contribution will not appear in any public filings, a decision likely meant to preserve his apolitical image.
In private conversations, Gates has voiced apprehensions over how a second Trump presidency might impact critical issues The Gates Foundation, which funds programs in areas such as family planning and health globally, could see setbacks if Trump’s policies—marked by significant budget cuts in these sectors—were reinstated.
The revelations come amid heightened speculation surrounding Harris’ billionaire backers. In a recent interview, Elon Musk stirred controversy by linking Harris’s support from billionaires like Gates to fears over the potential release of a so-called “Epstein client list” if Trump were to win the election.
Musk suggested that many influential figures are uneasy about the implications of Trump’s victory, hinting that this anxiety might explain the surge in financial support for Harris.
Harris is no stranger to wealthy supporters. She is backed by a growing list of high-profile billionaires, 76 in total, with 28 donating $1 million or more to various groups supporting her campaign.
36 other billionaires have contributed between $50,000 and $999,999, including fashion designer Tory Burch, Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings, Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen, and Apple co-founder Steve Jobs’ widow, Laurene Powell Jobs. Even Melinda French Gates, Gates’ former wife, has made donations supporting Harris, marking a rare alignment between the two post-divorce.
Alongside Gates and other major backers, influential figures like Mark Cuban and Magic Johnson have publicly endorsed her, signing an open letter in support of her candidacy.
