Red Bulls will not pursue Premier League star Mohamed Salah

Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah will not be donning a Red Bulls jersey despite strong dissatisfaction with his Premier League club and murmurs that teams in Saudi Arabia and MLS are looking to lure the Egyptian striker.

Salah unloaded on Liverpool following a match last weekend, telling reporters that his club had “thrown him under the bus” after he was benched for three straight Premier League matches and was left out of Liverpool’s Champions League game against Inter Milan on Tuesday.

The drama has raised a legitimate concern about whether Salah, one of the greatest players to touch the pitch in a Liverpool jersey, has played his last match for the Premier League side.

The Saudi Pro League and MLS have both been mentioned as possible destinations if Salah leaves, but the Red Bulls are not one of the American clubs interested in the 33-year-old striker, amNewYork reported Thursday night.

There had been some thought the Red Bulls would at least be in the conversation because the head of global soccer for Red Bull GmbH — the parent company of the Red Bulls — Jurgen Klopp had coached Salah during his time in charge at Liverpool.

San Diego FC, Inter Miami and the Chicago Fire have been the three MLS clubs that have often come up related to teams potentially linked to a potential Salah move to the United States.

New York City FC has not been mentioned in reports related to Salah.

MLS commissioner Don Garber made a pitch for Salah to play in the United States on Tuesday while speaking with reporters in South Florida.

“Obviously, if [Salah] ever decides to come to Major League Soccer, we’d welcome him with open arms,” Garber said. “I’d say he should reach out to Leo [Messi] and reach out to Thomas Muller and see how happy they’ve been and how successful they’ve been and how much they’ve really embraced being in Major League Soccer.”

Salah played a major role in two Premier League titles while with Liverpool, which included last season.

Things took a turn over the weekend when the tension between head coach Arne Slot and Salah reached a boiling point and the Liverpool superstar lashed out while speaking with the press.

“I got a lot of promises in the summer, and so far I am on the bench for three games, so I can’t say they keep their promise,” he said. “I said many times before that I had a good relationship with the manager, and all of a sudden, we don’t have any relationship. I don’t know why, but it seems to me, how I see it, that someone doesn’t want me in the club.”
