Temperatures in Hong Kong will drop to as low as 16 degrees Celsius (60.8 Fahrenheit) over the weekend after a cold front hits the city on Friday night, the local forecaster has said.
The Hong Kong Observatory said on Thursday that the cold front would edge southwards towards the coast of southern China the next day as a result of a trough of low pressure that was currently over the country’s centre.
“Under the persistent influence of the associated northeast monsoon, the weather will be cool with one or two rain patches over the region during the weekend [and until] early next week,” it said.
According to the latest nine-day forecast, temperatures will reach a low of 21 degrees on Friday, then fall to 17 degrees the next day and gradually drop to 16 degrees on Sunday.
The Observatory said it expected temperatures to “rise progressively” in the middle and latter parts of next week, with the mercury expected to reach 25 degrees or higher from next Thursday.
