Atlético Madrid hit with heavy injury blow before Arsenal tie

La Liga giants Atlético Madrid have this weekend been hit with a considerable blow on the personnel front.

This comes amid confirmation that Pablo Barrios will play no part in the club’s upcoming Champions League showdown with Arsenal.

Midfielder Barrios for his part returned to starting duties for the first time in over a month on Saturday, as Atlético locked horns with Athletic Club in a La Liga clash.

En route to an eventual 3-2 victory, however, the 22-year-old suffered yet another injury setback.

After going to ground clutching his hamstring, Barrios was hooked from proceedings just shy of the hour mark.

The hope, initially, was that the issue was not a serious one, and would rule the Spanish international out of only the first leg of Atléti’s Arsenal tie.

As alluded to above, however, this has in fact not proven to be the case.

As per a report from journalist Fabrizio Romano, citing Marca:

‘Pablo Barrios will miss both games against Arsenal with muscle injury. He’d try to recover in case of potential Champions League final.’
