Lady Gaga’s Epic Crime Biopic Is Leaving Netflix Soon

A 2021 biographical crime drama, starring Lady Gaga, will soon exit the Netflix content library. The film portrays real-life events that led to the Gucci family’s loss of control over one of the world’s most popular luxury fashion brands and the assassination of Maurizio Gucci.

House of Gucci is leaving Netflix next month

Lady Gaga’s House of Gucci is leaving Netflix on Thursday, March 12, 2026.

Set in the late 1970s, the film tells the true story of Patrizia Reggiani (Gaga), who marries Maurizio Gucci, the half-heir to the luxury fashion brand Gucci. However, her ambition to take over the business leads to several betrayals and power struggles within the family. It ultimately resulted in Maurizio Gucci’s death.

The film is based on Sara Gay Forden’s 2001 novel The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed. Its cast also features Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Jeremy Irons, and Al Pacino, among others.

The film premiered in cinemas on November 24, 2021, and received mixed-to-positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. It currently has a 61% Tomatometer score and 83% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes. The reviews helped the film gross over $153 million worldwide.

Discussions about making a film about the fall of the Gucci family began in 2006, with Scott as the director. However, due to various issues, Paramount Pictures shelved the idea for more than a decade. In 2019, it was announced that Scott would direct the film, with Lady Gaga in the lead role. A year later, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer acquired the film rights and finalized the cast.

In preparation to portray Patrizia Reggiani, the “Bad Romance” singer “lived as” Reggiani for 18 months and spoke with an Italian accent for nine months during that time. “I was either in my hotel room, living and speaking as Reggiani, or I was on set, living and speaking as her,” she said in another interview (via The Guardian).

Upon its release, the Gucci family accused the filmmakers of “stealing the identity of a family to make a profit.” However, the Gladiator director shot down the accusations (via Deadline). “You have to remember that one Gucci was murdered and another went to jail for tax evasion. So you can’t be talking to me about making a profit. As soon as you do that, you become part of the public domain,” he explained.
