Real Zaragoz goalkeeper Esteban Andrada punched the opposition captain sparking a wild brawl on the ground in the Aragonese derby of Spanish football.
Real Zaragoz goalkeeper Esteban Andrada lost his cool and punched an opposition player right after being shown a red card in a heated derby match with Huesca in Spain’s second division football league. The violent attack sparked a mass brawl with players from both sides getting involved.
Real Zaragoza’s were trailing 1-0 against SD Huesca in Spain’s Segunda Division and the match was about to end when Andrada received a second yellow card for pushing over an opposition player. As soon as the Argentine saw the booking, he ran towards Huesca captain Jorge Pulido and punched him right in the face in an incident that has sparked widespread outrage.
Andrada apologises for wild punch
The 35-year-old goalkeeper, who has four caps for Argentina, is on loan at Zaragoza from Mexican club Monterrey. With Zaragoza and Huesca both engaged in a tight relegation battle, points in the game were of high value. In this high-stakes game, Andrada lost his cool and punched the opposition captain.

The punch led to a wild brawl with members of both teams storming the pitch which lead to chaos with the crowd going berserk in the stands. Huesca’s Dani Jimenez and Zaragoza’s Dani Tasende were also sent off.
Andrada apologised for the incident later and said he was ready to recieve any punishment.
“The truth is I’m very, very sorry for what happened,” he said. “It’s not a good image for the club, for the fans, and especially not for a professional like myself. So, I’m very sorry. Throughout my career, I’ve only had one red card, and that was for a handball outside the penalty area.”
“I also want to apologize to Jorge Pulido because we are colleagues, and honestly, it was my fault, I lost focus at that moment, and well, I am here for whatever consequences the league may give me,” he said.
Reports suggest that the Argentine is set to get a lengthy ban for his behaviour. The Aragonese derby, one of Spanish football’s more intense regional rivalries, was won by Huesca who are now 19th in the 22-team league with Zaragoza at the second last position.
