Angel Studios and Wonder Project have debuted a new trailer for their historical war epic Young Washington. The film will premiere in theaters nationwide on July 3, 2026. The release coincides with the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
Director Jon Erwin helms the project, which chronicles George Washington’s early years as a soldier. William Franklyn-Miller stars in the lead role as the young future president. Academy Award winner Ben Kingsley portrays Robert Dinwiddie in a key supporting role.
Golden Globe winners Kelsey Grammer and Mary-Louise Parker round out the ensemble cast. Golden Globe nominee Andy Serkis plays General Edward Braddock in the film. Joel Smallbone of the Grammy-winning duo for KING + COUNTRY also joins the cast.
The film’s synopsis reads, “Before he was the Father of a Nation, he was a soldier fighting to survive.” It continues, “A single misstep thrusts young George Washington into the center of a global conflict, testing his honor, loyalty, and courage.” The story follows Washington as alliances crumble and the frontier erupts into war.
Angel Studios announced the film as part of its CinemaCon 2026 mainstage presentation. The studio revealed five new theatrical releases alongside trailers during the event. Neal Harmon, co-founder and CEO of Angel, stated the slate “demonstrates that with engaging subjects, established stars, and engrossing storytelling, Angel has gone from aspiring to achieving.”
Young Washington marks the first feature collaboration between Angel Studios and Wonder Project. Erwin previously directed hits including Jesus Revolution and I Can Only Imagine for the studio. The production also involves 2521 Entertainment, Provident Films, and Wild Atlantic Pictures as associated companies.
