Why Arbor Realty Trust (ABR) stock is trading lower today

What happened?

Shares of real estate investment trust Arbor Realty Trust (NYSE:ABR) fell 27.3% in the afternoon session after the company reported a GAAP net loss for the third quarter of 2026, missed estimates for revenue, net interest income, and adjusted earnings, and suspended its quarterly cash dividend on common stock. According to a company press release, Arbor Realty Trust recorded a GAAP net loss of $85.4 million, or 51 cents per diluted common share, for the third quarter of 2026. Revenue was $94.09 million, down 16.3% from a year earlier and 16.5% below the S&P estimate of $112.7 million. Net interest income was $37.67 million, down 1.6% from a year earlier and 22.5% below the $48.62 million analysts expected. Adjusted earnings per share were a loss of 4 cents, against an S&P estimate of a 5-cent profit. The company suspended its quarterly cash dividend on common stock to preserve capital and maintain financial flexibility. A dividend suspension allows the company to conserve liquidity and retain cash on its balance sheet, but it eliminates recurring income payments for common shareholders. The company’s market capitalization stood at $563.4 million.

What is the market telling us

Arbor Realty Trust’s shares are very volatile and have had 22 moves greater than 5% over the last year. But moves this big are rare even for Arbor Realty Trust and indicate this news significantly impacted the market’s perception of the business.

The previous big move we wrote about was 11 days ago when the stock dropped 1.7% on the news that U.S. Treasury yields moved higher across the curve as investors continued to digest sticky inflation data and the prospect of tighter financial conditions. According to CNBC, the benchmark 10-year yield rose more than 3 basis points to about 5.14%, the 2-year climbed above 4.77%, and the 30-year yield moved higher near 5.47%. Last week’s hotter-than-expected inflation reports — September consumer prices up 3.7% year over year and a sharp jump in wholesale prices — kept rate concerns front and center heading into the Federal Reserve’s late-October meeting. Higher Treasury yields lift mortgage and funding costs and make bonds more competitive with equities, a combination that typically weighs on rate-sensitive mortgage REITs and mortgage-related names. Reuters also noted the 10-year was coming off its biggest weekly drop in seven months before edging back up Monday, underscoring that elevated absolute yield levels — not just the one-day move — remain a headwind for housing- and credit-linked equities.

Arbor Realty Trust is down 72.3% since the beginning of the year, and at $2.21 per share, it is trading 80.9% below its 52-week high of $11.55 from October 2025. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of Arbor Realty Trust’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at only $106.37.
