The two Chelsea stars picked for Team of the Week and why the stats favoured them

With Manchester United’s thrilling draw against Bournemouth concluded, the Premier League’s 16th gameweek draws to a close, and we can take a look back at the stars of the week.

Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Everton was more notable for Enzo Maresca’s outburst in the press conference at the end than anything else, but there were still some really solid performances from Blues out there, especially in defence.

Chelsea snag two spots in TOTW

The Premier League team of the week for Gameweek 16 according to WhoScored’s stats rating system.

In the end, two Blues make the cut alongside a host of Nottingham Forest stars after their big win.

First up is Malo Gusto. He had a great game overall, and grabbed a goal and an assist. It was maybe his best ever Chelsea game, super dynamic and effective all over the pitch. Maresca gave him special praise after the game, and it was well deserved.

Then there’s Wesley Fofana. The defender has looked better and better at the back, since his latest injury return, and his partnership with Trevoh Chalobah continues to go from strength to strength. We’re much more confident about our chances when that pair are playing.

Chalobah himself is very unlucky to not make it in – we’d imagine he was only fractionally lower rated than Fofana, and Calvin Bassey is only getting in as the other central defender because he scored a goal. He was no great shakes defensively for Fulham.

In other news…

Tonight’s opposition won’t be able to use one of their big attacking stars, as Chelsea have made a decision to block him from playing.

Chelsea are looking to make more moves in January, as ever, and their latest interest is in Cassiano Kiala of Bayern Munich, whose father has been in London for talks with the Blues and another Premier League club.
