What is The Housemaid about?
“In The Housemaid, Millie (Sydney Sweeney) is a struggling young woman who is relieved to get a fresh start as a housemaid to Nina (Amanda Seyfried) and Andrew (Brandon Sklenar), an upscale, wealthy couple,” the synopsis for the movie reads. “She soon learns that the family’s secrets are far more dangerous than her own.”
Along with Sweeney (Euphoria, Anyone but You) and Seyfried (Jennifer’s Body, Mean Girls), The Housemaid stars Brandon Sklenar (It Ends with Us, Emily the Criminal) and Michele Morrone (365 Days).
The script for the film was written by Rebecca Sonnenshine. Feig serves as a producer alongside Todd Lieberman, Carly Kleinbart Elter, and Laura Fischer.
Feig is known for creating the short-lived but beloved series Freaks and Geeks, which aired on NBC during the 1999-2000 television season. He made his feature film directorial debut in 2003 with I Am David and then went on to direct 2006’s Unaccompanied Minors, 2011’s Bridesmaids, 2013’s The Heat, 2015’s Spy, 2016’s Ghostbusters, 2018’s A Simple Favor, 2019’s Last Christmas, 2022’s The School for Good and Evil, and, most recently, 2024’s Jackpot!
Along with The Housemaid, he’s also working on a sequel to A Simple Favor, which will see Anna Kendrick, Blake Lively, and Henry Gooding reprise their respective roles from the first film. The Simple Favor sequel does not yet have a release date.
The Housemaid will be released in United States theaters on December 25, 2025, from Lionsgate.
