Hong Kong police and a bomb disposal unit were deployed to a residential area in Happy Valley on Wednesday afternoon after a driver spotted a suspected wartime grenade lodged on a hillside.
Police received a report at about 1.40pm from a driver passing the Villa Monte Rosa housing estate on Stubbs Road.
The device, described as being roughly the size of a lemon, was found on a slope near the luxury residential complex.
Officers from the explosive ordnance disposal bureau were called to the scene to assess and safely handle the object, adding that no evacuation was required.
The Transport Department announced at 2.48pm that a one-lane, two-way traffic arrangement had been implemented on Stubbs Road near The Valley View because of the emergency, advising commuters to expect heavy congestion in the area.
