Academy Award-nominated actors Sebastian Stan and Vanessa Kirby are officially teaming up for the upcoming film adaptation of Ruins, based on author Amy Taylor’s new novel which will launched in the U.S. this July 1. Miramax successfully acquired the rights to the project, after a competitive bidding war.
In addition to leading the cast, Stan and Kirby have also signed on to produce the movie. Stan most recently starred in Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts* movie, while Kirby is set to make her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut this July 25 in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Both of them are currently in production for Avengers: Doomsday, in which they’ll be reprising their respective roles as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier and Sue Storm/Invisible Woman.
What is Sebastian Stan and Vanessa Kirby’s Ruins about?
“The story follows a couple whose affair with a young Greek woman over the course of a summer in Athens threatens to crack their relationship open in a story about privilege and power, desire and intimacy,” reads the official synopsis.
At the moment, the Ruins movie has no director and release date attached to it yet. Kirby is producing through her Aluna Entertainment banner. The project will also be produced by Scott Free and Linden. Miramax boss Alexandra Loewy was the one who shepherded the acquisition deal.
Besides Ruins, Stan will also next be seen in Justin Kurzel’s upcoming Burning Rainbow Farm movie with The White Lotus star Leo Woodall. As for Kirby, she will also be appearing in Ron Howard’s upcoming period thriller movie Eden, which will premiere this summer.
