Megan Thee Stallion is back in the building.
After the Houston-born rapper took a brief hiatus from her run on Broadway’s “Moulin Rouge! The Musical,” following a medical scare, she returned to the stage Thursday, April 2. Megan has taken on the role of Zidler in the beloved production, currently playing at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in Manhattan.
The “Hiss” singer, 31, was hospitalized earlier this week after she started feeling “very ill” during a show on Tuesday, March 31, spokesperson Didier Morais confirmed to USA TODAY at the time. She was taken to a local hospital soon after so her symptoms could be evaluated.

In an updated statement on Wednesday, April 1, Morais said doctors “identified extreme exhaustion, dehydration, vasoconstriction and low metabolic levels as the cause of her symptoms,” but she has “since been treated, discharged and is now resting.”
Her role as Zidler, a top hat-wearing manager of the club that serves as the play’s central backdrop, marks a Broadway debut for the rapper. She is one of several high-profile celebrities who have tried their hand in New York’s theater district as so-called “stunt casting” becomes more popular amid financial woes for the industry.
In a statement posted to her Instagram April 1, Megan, who played her first show March 24, called her trip to the hospital a “wake-up call.”
“I’ve been pushing myself past my limits lately, running on empty, and my body finally said enough,” she wrote. “It honestly scared me. I thought I was gonna faint on stage, I really tried to push through my performance but I just couldn’t.”
She continued on to say that she needed “one day to rest, reset, and take care of myself the way I should have been,” but will be “stronger, clearer, and ready to give you 100% the way you deserve” for her return on Thursday.
Megan told USA TODAY earlier this year that starring in a Broadway production was something her late mother, Holly Thomas, would have loved for her to do, as her mother would put her in plays when she was younger.
“So, loving ‘Moulin Rouge!’ and knowing that my mom loved theatre, I feel like she saw this for me. I feel like she manifested this for me. So, I feel really excited to do it, and I’m [going to] put my all into it,” she said.
