FLINT, Mich. (WJRT) – McLaren’s Medicine Residency Center hosted a community event at Flint Farmers Market centered around Lifestyle Medicine.

Organizers say that Lifestyle Medicine is built on six pillars designed to prevent and manage chronic diseases. This includes eating, physical activity, restorative sleep, stress management, social connection and avoidance of harmful substances.

The event featured activities like a whole-food, plant-based cooking demonstration and stress screenings.

The McLaren Flint Behavioral Health Academic Director stresses that lifestyle medicine is effective.

“This is an evidence-based, holistic approach that uses therapeutic lifestyle interventions- the pillars- to treat chronic conditions,” the director said.
