Mary Earps nears PSG transfer amid Man United exit – sources

England goalkeeper Mary Earps is closing in on a move to Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer, sources have told ESPN, with her Manchester United contract due to expire this month.

Despite negotiations for an extension with United taking place, sources told ESPN that Earps is likely to sign for the French side.

Earps’ future has been a topic of intense speculation over the past 12 months. Last summer, Women’s Super League (WSL) rivals Arsenal were prepared to pay a world-record fee for the 31-year-old, with speculation coming in January over whether Earps would make the move to north London. However, she remained with United, who she helped lift the Women’s FA Cup.

Earps signed for United from Wolfsburg in 2019 after United won promotion to the WSL and gone on to make over 100 appearances.

Last month, Earps said she was waiting for United to detail their plans before she made a decision over her future.

“The honest reality is that conversations are still ongoing,” Earps told Sky Sports News last month. “I’ve been clear I don’t want to make an emotional decision. I’ve asked the club for some confirmation on what they’re trying to achieve, and when I have those answers, I’ll be able to make a decision. It’s up to the club.”

PSG have an available non-EU player quota place available for Earps, with Tabitha Chawinga departing after her one-year loan spell and Eva Gaetino having a Hungarian passport through a relative.

Information from ESPN’s Emily Keogh, Tom Hamilton and Julien Laurens contributed to this report.
