Good Friday falls on April 18 this year. It occurs a few days before Easter, prompting questions about if the United States Postal Service (USPS), the United Parcel Service (UPS) and FedEx will deliver mail and packages as usual.
The Context
The date of Easter changes every year since it occurs on the first Sunday after the Paschal Full Moon, which is the full moon that occurs on or after the spring equinox. This year, Easter falls on April 20.
Several holidays related to Easter also take place during the week, including Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, and Good Friday, which occurs the Friday before Easter. Ash Wednesday is observed 46 days before Easter and marks the first day of Lent.
Is Mail Delivered on Good Friday?
The USPS will deliver mail as it normally would on Good Friday.
The USPS doesn’t deliver ordinary mail on Sundays, but it will deliver Priority Mail and Priority Mail Express on Easter Sunday. Priority mail has a one- to three-day delivery and is often used for heavy packages. This can include packages shipped by Amazon and delivered by USPS workers.
The next holiday USPS will observe is Memorial Day on Monday, May 26.
Is the Post Office Open Today?
Yes, USPS post offices will operate as normal on Good Friday.
UPS, FedEx Deliveries
UPS services will proceed as usual on Good Friday, a spokesperson told Newsweek. UPS doesn’t deliver or pickup packages on Sundays, meaning its typical operations schedule also will not change on Easter. The next holiday UPS will observe will be Memorial Day. Its locations will be closed and no deliveries or pickups will occur.
FedEx will be open on Good Friday, but some of its services might be modified, according to a 2025 holiday calendar sent to Newsweek. Normal FedEx services will be available on the Saturday before Easter, but FedEx Freight will be closed. FedEx and FedEx Freight will be closed on Easter Sunday.
Good Friday is not a federal holiday. Most banks will be open, though they will close on Easter because it falls on a Sunday. Most schools and businesses also proceed as usual.
What People Are Saying
A spokesperson for the USPS told Newsweek: “United States Postal Service operations will proceed as normal on Good Friday, April 18, and Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025. The list of federal holidays during which USPS mail service is not available can be found at https://about.usps.com/newsroom/events/.”
What Happens Next?
Next year, Easter will occur several weeks earlier on April 5, 2026. This means Good Friday will fall on April 3, 2026.
Other holidays occurring this year that will disrupt mail delivery services include Memorial Day, Juneteenth National Independence Day on June 19, Independence Day on July 4, Labor Day on September 1, Indigenous Peoples Day and Columbus Day on October 13, Veterans Day on November 11, Thanksgiving Day on November 27 and Christmas Day on December 25.
