Ironheart star Dominique Thorne gave an update about the prospective Season 2 ahead of the first season premiere. Thorne debuted as Riri Williams in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022). The inaugural season of the show takes place after the events of that movie.
Dominique Thorne on what Ironheart Season 2’s story could be
Thorne reflected on the prospects of Ironheart Season 2 during a recent interview with The Direct and what its plot could be. Notably, at the time of this article’s composition, Marvel Studios hasn’t officially greenlit the sophomore season. When asked whether she had heard any talks about the second season at Marvel, Thorne responded, “No, no. Not yet.” She also stated in the same interview that if Season 2 happened, she would like to delve into “the full range of other options” that Riri encountered in the first season.
“Actually don’t think I can even say that without spoiling everything…I would like to see her explore the full range of other options presented to her in Season 1,” she said.
Thorne teased that the first season would deeply impact Riri’s view of the world around her, and that would, in turn, expand the number of choices she could have for the future. “I think this time around, once again, her mind is opened about what actually exists in the world, realizing that it’s so much bigger than what she thought even in her hometown, that things are so much bigger and there’s a lot more going on than she ever cared to know or to understand,” Thorne explained.
The Judas and the Black Messiah actress predicted that whatever Riri would ultimately choose, she would “commit” to it.
Chinaka Hodge created Ironheart for Marvel Studios. The cast also includes Anthony Ramos as Parker Robbins / The Hood and Lyric Ross as Natalie Washington. Ironheart Season 1 premieres on Disney+ on June 24, 2025.
