Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis carted off the field with GRUESOME leg injury via a hip drop tackle… the same technique that injured Ravens TE Mark Andrews

  • Travis’s foot was seen bent completely sideways and he was in visible agony
  • This comes days after NFL star Mark Andrews was injured on a similar tackle

Florida State Seminoles quarterback Jordan Travis was carted off the field in a game against North Alabama after suffering what appears to be a serious foot injury.

Travis was scrambling for a gain when he was hit by linebacker Shaun Myers – who executed what is known as a hip-drop tackle.

Myers’ body weight landed directly on top of Travis’s foot, snapping it to the side and leaving the quarterback in immediate pain.

Travis instantly motioned to the sidelines for help and the game was temporarily halted.

The quarterback was carted off the field and backup Tate Rodemaker stepped in to replace him.

At the time of the incident, the Seminoles were behind 13-0 to North Alabama – an FCS team – late in the first quarter.

However, the ‘Noles put up 24 unanswered points to go into halftime up 24-13.

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston – who was being honored along with the 2013 national championship team – offered nothing but kind words and thoughts for Travis.

‘I just want to continue to encourage him to stay resilient and continue to persevere. I think he’s the epitome of that with his journey, his college football career.

‘He was having one of the best years ever in college football, man. And I’m grateful to be rocking his jersey and the significance of his number with us winning the championship in 2013 and him being one of the best quarterbacks this year, man.

‘I just, I just want to continue to lift him up. Just keep your head first, stand firmly, strong and courageous that the Lord has a plan for you that no man, nobody can ever even imagine.

‘So just stay resilient. He has done that. So I know that him and his family is going to pray for his family. He’s going to be fine. I know he will.’

Ravens coach John Harbaugh said he’ll petition the NFL to review the Andrews tackle

The hip-drop tackle has been receiving greater scrutiny in recent days – especially after Ravens tight end Mark Andrews was injured on the first drive of a Thursday Night Football game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Andrews was tackled by Logan Wilson – who executed said hip-drop maneuver and landed right on the Baltimore tight end’s foot.

A hip-drop tackle is a technique where a defender wraps their arms on a ball carrier and then swings their weight around and falling onto the leg of their opponent.

By landing ones entire body weight onto the leg, the rate of serious knee, ankle, and foot injuries increases.

Andrews is not the only person to fall victim to a hip-drop tackle this season. Seahawks QB Geno Smith also had a similar incident against the New York Giants earlier this year.

The tackle has not been banned at either the college or the pro level, but more and more players and coaches – including Ravens coach John Harbaugh – have been asking the NFL and the NCAA to review eliminating it from the sport.
