Kansas City Chiefs safety Bryan Cook was carted off the field after suffering a gruesome-looking ankle injury against the Green Bay Packers.
As he tackled Packers running back AJ Dillon in the third quarter of Sunday’s match, Cook’s ankle appeared to get caught underneath him and bend in the wrong direction.
Players on the sideline immediately gathered around him as he was tended to by trainers and then loaded on to the cart with tears running down his face.Â
The NBC broadcast elected not to show the replay of the injury.
After leaving the field, Cook was initially ruled as questionable. Before long, however, he officially ruled out for the contest.

Cook was seen leaving the X-ray room without a shoe or a sock on his left foot and he was unable to put weight on his ankle, either.Â
Before leaving the game injured, Cook was leading the Chiefs defense with seven tackles in the game.Â
Heading into Sunday night’s trip to Lambeau Field Cook had recorded 35 total tackles, an interception, two pass deflections, and two fumble recoveries through 11 games.
The 24-year-old was selected with the No 62 overall pick in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
