Chelsea’s Mykhailo Mudryk slammed online after his attempt at a long range shot against Sheffield United sends the ball flying off towards the corner flag

Chelea’s Mykhailo Mudryk has been slammed on social media for sending a speculative long-range shot flying off towards the corner flag.

The incident came in the middle of a goalless first half at Stamford Bridge, with the Blues entertaining Sheffield United.

Second half goals from Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson gave Chelsea a 2-0 victory in the end, as the Blues looked to bounce back from consecutive defeats against Manchester United and Everton – but Mudryk’s miss was the first-half talking point.

Mudryk started the game against the Blades, and played 69 minutes, but the Ukrainian came under fire for his speculative shot in the 22nd minute, which swerved far wide and came closer to the corner flag than challenging Sheffield United goalkeeper Wes Foderingham.

A clip of the attempt was posted with the caption: ‘Mudryk attempts a long range shot but the ball goes towards the corner flag instead.’

One Blues fan took to X (formerly Twitter) to write: ‘Mudryk nutmegging a player and then almost hitting the corner flag with his shot. Chels’.

Amidst a frustrating first half for Chelsea fans, one posted: ‘I know the clip of Mudryk is going viral, but he’s been our biggest attacking threat. AGAIN.’

Another wrote: ‘that mudryk shot still has me baffled’, and another added: ‘When can we start having an honest conversation on Mudryk? Asking for a friend’.

A rival fan joked: ‘Mudryk was trying to pass the ball to his friend in the crowd there’.

However, others noted that there was promise from the Ukrainian player, as one added: ‘That Mudryk dribble into THAT shot is a good example of where he’s at right now, quality & potential in some areas but really raw in others, it’ll take time but there’s a player there’.
