Bitesize Prediction: Borussia Monchengladbach vs Augsburg – 21/01/24

Competition: Bundesliga

Market: Borussia Monchengladbach win

Odds: 1/1 @ Pribet

Hoping to extend their stay in the top-half of the Bundesliga standings, Borussia Monchengladbach will host Augsburg on Sunday afternoon.

Starting with the hosts, while Borussia Monchengladbach might have signed off 2023 in the midst of a blip, Gerardo Seoane’s side certainly came roaring back last weekend. Putting in a rampant performance on home soil as they stormed to a 3-1 victory against Champions League dreamers Stuttgart, the Foals will be desperate to use that display as a platform to build on. With another top-half finish at the top of their agenda this year, the former Bayer Leverkusen boss will be hugely excited by his side’s continued success at Borussia-Park. Including a stellar 4-0 romp against Wolfsburg, it should be noted that Gladbach have collected 13 points from their previous five Bundesliga showdowns in front of their own supporters – a run that stems all the way back to a 2-2 draw against Mainz on October 6th. Continuing to shine with their free-scoring performances at Borussia-Park, Seoane’s men should be smelling another golden opportunity here.

As for the visitors, continuing on a worrying rut on either side of the festive interval, Augsburg almost find themselves sat in top-flight limbo. Last seen opening the New Year with a 1-0 loss at home against title contenders Bayer Leverkusen, Jess Thorup’s men have collected just a single point from their previous four Bundesliga appearances and they have continued to struggle with their consistency. Heading into the winter break with a routine 3-0 drumming at the hands of Stuttgart, the one-the Genk boss will be most concerned by his side’s extended issues on the road. In fact, along with losing back-to-back appearances outside o Bavaria by an aggregate score of 5-0, Augsburg have remarkably picked up just a single Bundesliga victory on their travels since October 2022. Likewise slumping to a 2-0 defeat when they travelled to Borussia-Park last season, we are expecting a similar outcome on Sunday afternoon.
