Villarreal are currently having one of the most successful seasons in the club’s history and are sitting third in LaLiga. However, the club is in disagreement with their coach Marcelino who differs in several points with club officials.

As per a report from Spanish radio program El Larguero from channel Cadena SER, the Spaniard could very likely be leaving Villarreal after the season.

One aspect mentioned is the bad results in the Champions League where Villarreal have drawn one game and lost the other seven. Furthermore, Marcelino’s minimal game time for academy players and wish for higher spending also caused even more disruption between him and the club. Lastly, his high demands on and off the pitch contributed to the growing tension within the club and led to the breakdown of the relationship.

“I believe we will be making a final decision shortly. We will sit down together, and the club and the coaching staff will reach a decision, which we will then announce.“, Marcelino, who is likely to leave, recently said in a press conference.

In his second stint at Villarreal, the 60-year-old is leading the Yellow Submarine to Champions League football again, currently behind Barcelona and Real Madrid with 65 points. In the remainder of the season, he could even make this the best club’s history with a possible 80 points at the end.

Until now, Manuel Pellegrini’s 77 points in 2007/08 is their best season, placing second behind champions Real Madrid.
