INTERNATIONAL. Here’s another chance to win a great prize in our Strange Predictions* contest hosted by Strange Nature Gin of New Zealand as our popular readers’ competition makes a welcome return.
We’re asking travel retail and aviation sector stakeholders to pick the results of two much-anticipated sporting competitions, with another couple of intriguing questions thrown in to sort out the real pundits from the wannabes.
We also reveal the winner of our last competition.
As with all our Strange Predictions competitions, the winner will receive a bottle of the outstanding Strange Nature Gin, whose spirit base is drawn from Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Strange indeed (but very, very good).
Question 1: Which teams will win the semi-finals of the 2025-26 UEFA Champions League? And which team will win the overall tournament?
The competition is finely poised after the first leg of the semi-finals, which resulted in the following scorelines (home teams first):
Atlético de Madrid vs Arsenal 1-1
Paris Saint-Germain vs Bayern München 5-4
The return legs will be played on Tuesday 5 May (Arsenal vs. Atlético de Madrid) and Wednesday 6 May (Bayern München vs. Paris Saint-Germain)
Tie-breaker question: What will be the score at the end of ordinary time in the UEFA Champions League FINAL?
Question 2: Which team will win the English Premier League?
Here is a reminder of the current standings with just a handful of matches to play:

Question 3: In how many airports is Strange Nature Gin listed?
Yes, we know this is a toughie. Here are some helpful hints.
- Strange Nature is a young brand, launched domestically in October 2021.
- It entered travel retail in early 2023.
- Duty free has been a key channel for growth since. The brand is widely distributed with multiple SKUs in numerous New Zealand and Australian airports and sell-out has been hugely encouraging wherever the brand is listed.
- It has also picked up several encouraging duty-free listings at airports further afield since.
Question 4: Is The Moodie Davitt Report Founder & Chairman Martin Moodie a Kiwi or an Aussie (readers getting this answer wrong will be permanently blacklisted from access to all our publications)?
Rules:
-
- Only entries from bona-fide members of the travel retail and aviation community will be accepted.
- One point will be given for each correct sporting answer (a potential total of 3). And one point for the correct answer (or the closest to it) for the Strange Nature question and for the fiendishly difficult Martin Moodie provenance one.
- The tie-breaker question will come into play in the event of two or more participants having equal points from the other questions. It will be based on 1) getting the exact score or, if no-one predicts the results, the lowest collective differential between the predicted score and the actual score. So if, say, Paris Saint-Germain beat Arsenal 3-1 at the end of ordinary time and you predicted the French side to win 4-2, you would have a points differential of 2.
- Judge’s decision is final.
Send your estimate to: Martin@MoodieDavittReport.com headed ‘Strange Predictions Competiton’ before kick-off of the first match (Arsenal vs. Atlético de Madrid) on on Tuesday 5 May.
And the winner is…
Last time out we asked contestants to predict the results of two rugby matches: the November rugby internationals between England and the All Blacks of New Zealand; and Ireland and the Wallabies of Australia.
The results were:
- The scores were: England 33 – All Blacks 19; and Ireland 44 – Wallabies 19
Our winner with two correct choices and the lowst points differential was Hong Kong-based Global Drinks Limited and Misaka Japanese Whisky Founder & Managing Director Harry Kartasis (who wisely bet against his native Wallabies). ✈

*Strange PredictionsStrange Nature, the quirky super-premium New Zealand gin from Marlborough, which has gained impressive traction in travel retail and selected local markets since its launch in October 2021, is partnering with The Moodie Davitt Report in a pioneering readers’ competition called Strange Predictions. The programme features a series of predictive contests designed to test readers’ punditry skills across a myriad of events, ranging from sporting contests to political elections and other intriguing – and sometimes strange – events. Strange Nature General Manager – Owner Rhys Julian said: “At Strange Nature we like to embrace the strange. We consider our gin to be stranger than most, considering its grape origins, one botanical as well as sustainability and traceability credentials. “Therefore, in fitting with the brand we thought partnering with The Moodie Davitt Report’s Strange Predictions was a perfect fit. A fun competition for everyone, slightly left of centre, is very much our vibe.” |
