Real Madrid are set to finish the season without silverware. Over the last two campaigns, the only trophies lifted have been the UEFA Super Cup and the Intercontinental Cup. A paltry return for a club that boasts more Spanish, European and world titles than any other. Changes are coming this summer at Valdebebas, as Los Blancos look to put an end to this disappointing run of results and titles.
“Good times will come back”
One of the players under the closest scrutiny is Jude Bellingham. After a sensational first season, in which he was a driving force behind Madrid’s 15th European Cup triumph, the England international has spent the last two years below his expected level. The fanbase has him firmly in its sights, demanding much more from the attacker heading into next season.
Two days after Madrid’s Champions League quarterfinal elimination at the hands of Bayern Munich, Bellingham spoke out on Instagram and made a promise to the club’s faithful. “It wasn’t enough but we went out on our shield,” the 22-year-old said. “Madridistas, we know we’ve let you down but we’re always grateful for your support. The good times, which you deserve, will come back. No other option but to finish this season as strong as possible. Hala Madrid.”
Real Madrid’s season all but over
Barring an unexpected collapse by LaLiga leaders Barcelona, who sit nine points clear of Los Blancos, Madrid’s sole remaining objective is to finish second in the league and secure their place in the next Spanish Super Cup. Bellingham has promised silverware next season – and the Madrid supporters will be watching closely, ready to see whether he lives up to his word.
