Part 2 Working Title Hints at Who DC Movie’s Villains Might Be

The working title for The Batman: Part 2 may offer a big clue as to who the DC movie’s villains might be.

DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures’ The Batman: Part 2, also known as The Batman 2, is currently scheduled to be released next year. Directed by Matt Reeves, the sequel to 2022’s The Batman will see Robert Pattinson reprise his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman.

What is the working title for The Batman: Part 2?

While some casting information about The Batman: Part 2 has come out, there haven’t been too many details regarding the film’s plot that have been released. This has led to much speculation regarding who the main antagonist of the film might be, as Warner Bros. has kept all those details heavily under wraps.

Now, however, a working title for the Batman Epic Crime Saga film has been uncovered, and fans think they might have figured out who the villains of The Batman 2 will be.

According to a new production listing, The Batman 2 has a working title of “Semper Vigilans.” This Latin phrase translates to something along the lines of “always vigilant” or “ever watching” in English. While this could just be a phrase used to describe Batman, himself, some think that it’s a reference to the Court of Owls.

Created by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo, the Court of Owls is a criminal organization that first appeared in 2012’s Batman #6. Made up of some of the wealthiest and most influential citizens of Gotham, the Court has a reputation for ordering assassinations in order to further their political agenda. These assassinations are committed by highly trained agents called Talons.

The nursery rhyme that appears in the comics has people especially thinking that “Semper Vigilans” is a reference to the Court of Owls. It reads, “Beware The Court of Owls, that watches all the time, ruling Gotham from a shadowed perch, behind granite and lime. They watch you at your hearth, they watch you in your bed, speak not a whispered word of them, or they’ll send the Talon for your head.”

Whether or not the Court of Owls truly shows up in The Batman: Part 2 remains to be seen. The movie arrives on October 1, 2027.
