President Trump explained that he needs to focus on the ongoing situation with Iran. On Tuesday, he mentioned that he would start his trip to Asia in about five or six weeks, though he did not provide a specific date.
A representative from the Chinese Embassy in Washington commented on the situation, saying, “Diplomacy at the level of heads of state plays an indispensable role in determining the strategic course of bilateral relations.”
The spokesperson also noted that “China and the United States will continue to maintain contact regarding President Trump’s visit to China.”
Earlier this week, trade representatives from both nations met in Paris to begin planning for a leadership summit scheduled for later this month.

Shortly after those talks began, the President suggested he might delay a meeting with Xi Jinping if Beijing does not provide assistance with security in the Strait of Hormuz.
On March 15, 2026, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed that Russia and China were providing Tehran with military assistance as part of a broader strategic partnership.
During an interview with MS NOW, Araghchi stated that the three countries maintained close cooperation across political, economic, and military sectors.
He described Moscow and Beijing as strategic partners for Tehran while tensions remained high between Iran, the United States, and Israel. Additionally, Araghchi addressed the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, noting that Iran had imposed selective restrictions specifically on American and Israeli vessels.
