Michael B. Jordan Somehow Made Premier League History at the Oscars

Sinners, the sensational Ryan Coogler-directed Michael B. Jordan vehicle, made history before the 98th Academy Awards even began at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday.

With 16 nominations, Sinners became the most-nominated film of all time. Cooger won Best Original Screenplay, and Jordan won Best Actor. Autumn Durald Arkapaw became the first woman to ever win Best Cinematography, and longtime Coogler collaborator Ludwig Goransson won Best Original Score. Coogler, Durald Arkapaw, and Jordan are first-time Oscar winners.

Jordan thanked various people during his acceptance speech, and his fans and peers celebrated him all the way through to his In-N-Out Burger trip with his brand-new statuette afterward.

Jordan also received a surprising congratulations from across the pond.

“Congratulations to Michael B. Jordan on winning Best Actor at the Oscars last night, “AFC Bournemouth posted on X (formerly Twitter). “A proud day for the Cherries family.”

According to Front Office Sports, Jordan is now the first Premier League owner in history to win an Academy Award.

In December 2022, Bournemouth was taken over by the Bill Foley-led Black Knight Football Club, and Jordan led the new minority ownership group (via Reuters).

“As a kid, I used to play soccer a lot,” Jordan told TST last March. “Funny enough, I was the goalie because I didn’t like running a lot.” The 39-year-old star added, “I invested in Bournemouth a couple of years ago. When the opportunity presented itself, I just saw a team with a lot of upside, a lot of growth, a lot of potential, and I love their story. I love the team’s history.”

Now, Jordan has a unique stake in Bournemouth’s history, too. Jordan already played an iconic role in American football, starring as Vince Howard in Friday Night Lights from 2009 to 2011. Why not star in an international football film next?

Currently, the Cherries sit in 10th on the Premier League table.
