Multiple severe weather threats for Tennessee this week

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Severe weather season is quickly heating up. Over the weekend, we had a line of strong storms blow through Middle Tennessee, and this week we are expected to see multiple days where severe thunderstorms will be possible.

For most of our area, Monday will be quiet with sunshine and temperatures in the 70s. In the southern part of Middle Tennessee, the afternoon/evening could get loud. The Storm Prediction Center has our far southern counties under a level 1 marginal risk for severe weather.

FORECAST: Middle Tennessee & Southern Kentucky Weather

This threat is conditional, which means there’s a chance that the storms completely miss south of Tennessee, but the latest forecast model data does show a few thunderstorms impacting far southern Middle Tennessee. If a thunderstorm does become severe, damaging wind gusts over 60 mph will be the primary threat.

There is a larger storm system that will bring a more widespread threat to the Midsouth on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Is Middle Tennessee done with winter weather for this spring?

On Tuesday, the strongest thunderstorms are expected to stay west of Middle Tennessee, but out of an abundance of caution, the Storm Prediction Center has a few of our western counties under a level 1 marginal risk for severe weather.

Wednesday looks like the day that all of Middle Tennessee will need to be weather alert. All of Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky are under a level 2 slight risk for severe weather on Wednesday.

There could be changes to this risk area, but confidence is high that a line of strong thunderstorms will impact on Wednesday afternoon and evening.

It looks like all modes of severe weather will be possible on Wednesday. That means thunderstorms could produce damaging wind gusts, large hail, or tornadoes.
