A few months after taking home the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, Zoe Saldaña is introducing the statuette to the world as gender fluid.

Talking to People at the Los Angeles premiere for the upcoming Pixar movie Elio, Saldaña was asked where she’s keeping the Oscar she won for her role in Emilia Pérez. Saldaña said that it’s in her office, and also revealed that the statuette is trans.

“We have it in my office and my Oscar is gender fluid,” said Saldaña, who went on to note that the statuette was “trans” and “goes by they/them.” The comments are likely due to the fact that she won the award for playing a lawyer who is tasked with helping the titular Emilia Pérez undergo gender-affirming surgery to help escape their life as a cartel boss.

The Oscar win was Saldaña’s first, both as a nomination and win, and was one of two songs the movie won an Oscar for, the other being Best Original Song for “El Mal.” Outside of Emilia Pérez, Saldaña will next appear in 2025’s Elio and Avatar: Fire and Ash, and is also set to appear in Avatar 4, which isn’t out until sometime in 2029.
