MTR could have some good news coming in soon for pet owners in Hong Kong. As revealed in an HK01 exclusive, the MTR Corporation is exploring options for pet-friendly transportation with its services. This builds on the Pet Bus concept KMB launched last year, where certain buses ran on weekends, where a special fee of HKD 60 was charged for passengers to take their pets on board. Aside from guide dogs, other animals are not typically allowed on public transportation (ferries are a bit more lenient), and those in violation are met with fines in the thousands.
MTR might permit pets on board: All you need to know

The proposed idea will develop into something like a “pet carriage” that operates at non-peak hours of the day or even specific days of the week. This idea was brought forward years ago for designated lines in the New Territories but was eventually put on hold. This discussion is rumoured to be confirmed by MTR by the end of June this year, as multiple things need to be considered, like which lines make sense, hours of operation, types of animals allowed, and fare charges. The MTR will also need to assess how the incorporation of pets will affect other passengers.
For now, the best way to take your pets with you when travelling in the city is via minibus or taxi, and even those ways can sometimes depend on the driver.
