Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 Pro+ hands-on review

Introduction

The Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G is Xiaomi’s flagship product in its wildly successful Redmi Note series. While the Pro+ models have existed in the series for a couple of generations now, it’s only with the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ that the company switched to a premium pricing model from what was previously a budget smartphone series.

The Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G takes things further up a notch and is the most expensive Redmi phone to date. So what do you get for this added premium? The phone comes well-stocked with a range of high-end features. A curved display makes its debut on a Redmi series device with Gorilla Glass Victus protection as well as IP68 ingress rating. The main camera is a new 200MP Samsung ISOCELL HP3 and you get the same super-fast 120W charging from before with a charger provided in the box.

Topping all of that off is a custom MediaTek Dimensity 7200-Ultra with an updated list of storage and memory options, which starts at 256GB and now caps off at 512GB UFS 3.1.

The Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G starts at INR 31,999, INR 4000 more than the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G and a whopping INR 11,000 more than the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G launched just two years ago. That’s quite the premium but is it justified? Let’s find out.

Unboxing

The Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G comes in Xiaomi’s updated packaging for the Redmi series, featuring an all-red color scheme and prominent text on the front that replaces the image of the phones on previous packages.

Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus hands-on review

Inside our India-specific unit, we get the phone, a 120W charger, a cable, and a case. The soft silicone case goes from a clear design to an all-black color. Being an opaque material, you won’t get the same yellowing that you would with previous clear cases.

New case design

It features a rather large cutout at the top around the camera, which exposes far too much of the phone for purely aesthetic reasons and isn’t very protective. We recommend getting an aftermarket case for added protection.

US CPI at 3.3% Misses Expectations, Second-Round Effects Still Limited

US inflation surged in March, with CPI rising 0.9% mom and lifting the annual rate from 2.4% yoy to 3.3% yoy. While the jump was significant, both figures came in slightly below expectations of 1.0% mom and 3.4% yoy respectively, suggesting the energy-driven spike was largely anticipated. The surge was overwhelmingly driven by energy costs.
