Xiaomi 15T and 15T Pro arrive with larger 6.83″ displays and batteries, Pro has a new tele lens

Xiaomi’s new flagship models will be unveiled tomorrow – today come the Xiaomi 15T and 15T Pro. These bring high-end displays, powerful chipsets and capable cameras, but don’t go for absolute performance like the flagship models and as a result they are easier on the wallet too.

This year the two models are larger with 6.83” displays (the 14T pair had 6.67” displays), but they are thinner and have bigger batteries. The Pro also brings a more capable telephoto camera. Let’s look at them individually.

Xiaomi 15T Pro

The Xiaomi 15T Pro is powered by the Dimensity 9400+, the 2024 replacement of 14T Pro’s chipset. Yes, it’s a year old (MediaTek just announced the 9500), but it’s as much performance as most people are ever going to need. This phone is configured with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB/512GB/1TB of UFS 4.1 storage.

Xiaomi built in the 3D IceLoop cooling system to improve the sustained performance of the chip. Both phones come with the latest HyperOS 3 out of the box.

The new display is a 6.83” OLED panel with 1,280 x 2,772px resolution. It peaks at 3,200 nits brightness (down from 4,000 nits on the 14T Pro) and has DC dimming for flicker-free brightness control. Both HDR10+ and Dolby Vision are supported, plus Dolby Atmos for the stereo speakers. On the Pro, the display runs at 144Hz.

The main camera is built around the same 50MP Light Fusion sensor (1/1.31”) from OmniVision as last year. It has 1.2µm pixels and sits behind an f/1.62 lens with OIS.

The new 50MP telephoto camera has a longer 5x/115mm lens with f/3.0 aperture and OIS. This is up from 2.6x/60mm on last year’s model. The ultra-wide camera has a 12MP sensor and a 120° 15mm lens. The selfie camera has a 32MP sensor and a 90° 21mm lens.

All three rear cameras can record HDR10+ video (4K at 30fps). Additionally, the main can do 8K at 30fps, as well as 4K at up to 120fps. You have the option for 4K 60fps video in 10-bit Log mode with LUT support for easy color grading.

As mentioned, both phones have 5,500mAh batteries, up from 5,000mAh last year. The Pro model offers faster charging than the 15T (but not faster than the 14T Pro) with 90W wired and 50W wireless HyperCharge. Xiaomi says that the battery can last over 15 hours of constant use.

This Pro is slimmer than last year’s with its 6M13 aluminum alloy frame measuring 7.96mm. It weighs about the same, though, at 210g.

The phone has a sturdy IP68 rating and can dive down to 3m of fresh water (up from 2m). Both 15T models have Gorilla Glass 7i protection on the front and glass fiber back panels.

The Pro has advanced connectivity features including Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0 and NFC. Additionally, it has an offline communication method that offers phone-to-phone voice chat at distances of up to 1.9km. The vanilla 15T has the same feature, but it is limited to 1.3km range.

The Xiaomi 15T switches over to the Dimensity 8400-Ultra, while still packing the 3D IceLoop cooling system and 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM. Storage is 256GB or 512GB UFS 4.1.

The display is almost the same, a 6.83” OLED panel that peaks at 3,200 nits with HDR10+ and Dolby Vision support. Its refresh rate is capped at 120Hz, but the difference between 120Hz and 144Hz isn’t huge (most games don’t support 144Hz, anyway). And yes, there are stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos on board.

The 15T drops the Sony sensor of its predecessor, replacing it with the Light Fusion 800. It’s a similarly-sized 1/1.55” 50MP sensor with 1.0µm pixels. It has an f/1.7 lens with OIS.

Xiaomi 15T and 15 Pro arrive with larger 6.83'' displays and batteries, Pro has a new tele lens

Unlike the Pro, this one has a 2x/46mm tele lens with a 50MP sensor. This is comparable to the 14T camera. There’s also a 12MP ultra-wide and a 32MP selfie camera. While it can’t record 8K video, the 15T does have support for HDR10+ at 4K 30fps and 10-bit Log at 4K 60fps. Note that both the 15T and the 15T Pro have Leica Summilux lenses and bring upgraded Portrait Master modes.

The battery on the 15T is the same capacity as the Pro, 5,500mAh, but it supports only 67W wired charging.

There’s no word on the frame material, so it’s probably plastic again. This year the vanilla T-phone is thinner at 7.5mm (down from 7.8mm) but weighs the same at 194g. Its IP68 rating was similarly upgraded to surviving 3m depth.

Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 6.0 and NFC. The phone-to-phone offline communication is available too at up to 1.3km.
