On Thursday, Time Magazine released its list of “The World’s Greatest Places of 2025” highlighting 100 standout spots around the globe. Georgia had two make the list: The Georgia Safari Conservation Park and Ocmulgee Mounds. Here’s what we know:
How did Time choose the World’s Greatest Places?
Time said it sought out one-of-a-kind spots and experiences from all over the world. Every year, they solicit nominations of places—including hotels, cruises, restaurants, attractions, museums, parks, and more—from its network of correspondents and contributors, as well as through an application process.

What is Georgia Safari Conservation Park?
Less than a year old, the Georgia Safari Conservation Park is located in Madison about 23 miles east of Covington. It’s home to more than 40 animals from rhinos and bison to giraffes and zebras roaming on 530 acres. There are multiple tents and suites you can stay in that overlook the grasslands. Guests can get a private and guided tours as well as safari encounters. The animals are cared for by a team of veterinarians and species-specialized barn staff. The rooms have kitchenettes, but there is no other dining available.
How much is Georgia Safari Conservation Park?
The luxury tent lodges start at $500 per night while the luxury giraffe barn suites are about $1,000. Stays at the luxury tents include guided safari drive-through tours with guides, a giraffe and rhino encounter, and a keeper chat and ambassador animal encounter. Stays at the barn include private, guided safari tours in VIP safari vehicles, behind-the-scenes tours of the giraffe and rhino barn, and a private, extended animal encounter with the animal ambassadors.
What are the Ocmulgee Mounds?
Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park in Macon has a history that’s more than 12,000 years old. The Muscogee (Creek) Nation calls it their ancestral home. The mounds were built for various purposes, with the two tallest being where the chief and second-chief would have lived during the Mississippian Period and another being used for funerals. A major archaeological dig took place between 1933 and 1936 during which more than 2 million artifacts were discovered from pottery and arrowheads to pipes and jewelry.
Today, the mounds serve as a popular place to visit, offering eight miles of outdoor trails, a museum with thousands of artifacts on display, a gift shop, and plenty of activities.
How much does it cost to visit the Ocmulgee Mounds?
The Ocmulgee Mounds park is open daily 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is free all year (including parking). It’s closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day.
