A woman fled a burning flat in Hong Kong’s Yuen Long on Saturday, claiming her husband had attacked her with a knife before he was found to have fallen from a height nearby.
Senior Inspector Chan Man-hei of Yuen Long’s district investigation team said a 31-year-old woman had called for help at 9.43am, saying she had been knifed by her husband, who was the same age, in a flat at 88 Fung Cheung Road before managing to flee.
“Upon our checks of surveillance footage and preliminary investigation with the victim, we believe that the couple began arguing about business problems,” Chan said.
Officers arriving at the scene found smoke billowing from the flat in question, prompting about 30 residents to evacuate.
The victim’s husband was later found unconscious on a pavement opposite the flat after an apparent fall from height. He was rushed to Tuen Mun Hospital in a coma.
Chan said the man’s condition had stabilised as of Saturday afternoon.
The woman suffered injuries to her hand and was taken separately to Tuen Mun Hospital for treatment.
