A woman was arrested following a bloody dispute at Lamma Island’s Yung Shue Wan ferry pier on Monday afternoon.
Witnesses told HKFP that they saw a couple arguing in the paid area of the Yung Shue Wan ferry pier, and then on board the ferry, which was scheduled to depart for Central at 3:15pm.
Glass was seen strewn on the floor, and the man appeared to suffer cuts to his arms.
Police told HKFP on Monday that they were a married couple, and that the husband called the police at 3:08pm saying he was being assaulted.
The man was taken away in an ambulance. Police added that the toilet door of the vessel sustained damage, and investigations are continuing.
The case is being treated as suspected assault occasioning actual bodily harm and criminal damage.
Screams of ‘help me’
Footage suppled to HKFP appears to show the couple shouting at each other at the pier. Another clip showed the woman trying to enter a locked ferry toilet, where the man appeared to be hiding on board.
“There was glass on the floor and some of their belongings, also blood stains as well,” a witness, who did not wish to be named, told HKFP on Monday. “I saw that she also had blood on her hand, but [I was] not sure if it was hers – she injured both arms of that man. I don’t know the reason.”
“[P]olice took them calmly – I saw that one of the officers was taking to her, and she was sobbing while chatting with him,” they added.
The witness, a Lamma resident, said that staff did not intervene as the man screamed “help me,” but all passengers were asked to leave the boat. It is unclear if the sailing was cancelled.
When approached for comment by HKFP, the Hong Kong and Kowloon Ferry Company said they would reply on Friday, after the Lunar New Year.
