Who is Lauren Sanchez? Everything to know about Amazon’s executive Chairman Jeff Bezos' fiancée

From the stage of ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ to the floor of the Inaugural Ball – Lauren Sanchez’s ‘flight’ has been nothing short of spectacular. Here’s what you need to know about Jeff Bezos’ fiancee who, thanks to her risque outfit, grabbed everyone’s eyeballs at the oath-taking ceremony of the President of the United States, Donald Trump.

Who is Lauren Sanchez?

Lauren Wendy Sanchez is an American journalist, author, and philanthropist who rose to fame as a news anchor and entertainment reporter. Besides that, Sanchez is also a licensed pilot and founder of Black Ops Aviation.

Early days and career in front of the camera:

Born in 1969 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Sanchez began her career as a desk assistant at KCOP-TV in Los Angeles. She was also appointed as an anchor and reporter at KTVK-TV in Phoenix before joining the syndicated entertainment show Extra as a reporter.
Sanchez then moved to Fox Sports Net and went on to earn an Emmy nomination as anchor and correspondent for the sports magazine Going Deep, served as an anchor for Fox Sports News Primetime and later was an entertainment reporter for FSN’s Best Damn Sports Show Period.
In 1999, Sanchez returned to KCOP-TV to anchor UPN News 13, where her team won an Emmy Award. In 1999, Sanchez was a co-host on KTTV Fox 11’s Good Day LA and an anchor on Fox 11 News at Ten. She was the runner-up in the nationwide hosting competition during season 2 of The View in February 2000. However, the position was ultimately given to Lisa Ling.

In 2005, Sanchez became the original host of FOX’s popular dancing competition ‘So You Think You Can Dance’. However, Sanchez left the show after one season to have her second child and since then the show has been hosted by Cat Deeley.
In 2009, Sanchez returned to Extra as weekend anchor and special correspondent.
Sanchez continues to occasionally work on Good Day LA, Extra, and other TV shows.

Tryst of aviation:

Sanchez’s life off-camera hasn’t been devoid of adventure as well. Sanchez, whose dad worked as a flight instructor and airplane mechanic, has been a longtime flying enthusiast. She started with planes, and once she earned her helicopter license in 2016 when she was 40, she founded Black Ops Aviation, a production company specializing in aerial filming. Black Ops Aviation is the first female-owned aerial film and production company.
Sanchez now focuses on film and television projects which allow her to use her skills as a licensed pilot. She served as a consultant on Christopher Nolan‘s World War II epic ‘Dunkirk’.

In 2024, Sanchez received the Elling Halvorson Vertical Flight Hall of Fame Award at the Annual Living Legends of Aviation Awards for her expertise as a helicopter pilot and aviation businesswoman.
She anticipated flying to space in early 2024 with an all-female crew on board a New Shepard rocket, which is yet to happen.
In 2024, Sanchez released her first children’s book, The Fly Who Flew to Space, a story about a fly named Flynn who doesn’t do well in school but is curious about life and accidentally gets stuck in the cockpit of a rocket that heads into space. The story is inspired by Sanchez’s life and her struggles with dyslexia. The Fly Who Flew to Space debuted on the New York Times Bestseller list on September 29, 2024.

Personal life:

Lauren Sanchez was born to a second-generation Mexican-American family in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was unaware she was living with dyslexia until she was in college when a professor noticed and offered to help her get diagnosed.
Sanchez’s experience with dyslexia inspired her to advocate for educational systems that support all types of learning, drove her to write a book, and she has been a public supporter of the International Dyslexia Association.
Sanchez is mom to son Nikko Gonzalez (23) who was born in 2021, from a previous relationship with former NFL player Tony Gonzalez.
In August 2005, Sanchez married Patrick Whitesell, a Hollywood talent agent and founding partner of Endeavor talent agency. Evan Whitesell, their son, was born in 2006 and their daughter Eleanor ‘Ella’ Whitesell was born in 2008.

Even before they were romantically involved, Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez had known each other socially. Sanchez’s former husband, Whitesell, who is currently the executive chairman of Endeavor Group Holdings, was photographed with his then-wife Lauren and Bezos at a party in 2016 for the Oscar-winning film Manchester by the Sea, which counted Whitesell client Matt Damon as a producer and was distributed by Amazon Studios.
In 2018, Sanchez reportedly had an extramarital affair with Amazon founder and executive chairperson Jeff Bezos while they were both married to their respective partners.
In January 2019, Bezos and his wife MacKenzie Scott released a joint statement that they would be getting divorced after 25 years together.
On the same day, Bezos and Sanchez announced their relationship and the news of their engagement too.

In February 2019, Bezos published a blog post alleging that National Enquirer publisher American Media, Inc. had attempted blackmail and extortion in connection with Bezos’s affair with Sanchez. When the National Enquirer published alleged lusty text messages between Sanchez and Bezos, purportedly to shed light on how much their relationship overlapped with his marriage, a lawyer for Bezos pushed back against the alleged scoop, saying it was “widely known” that he and Scott were “long separated.”
In April 2019, Bezos’ divorce was finalized, and Sanchez and Whitesell filed for divorce, which was finalized in October 2019.
Bezos and Sanchez have been together ever since. On May 22, 2023, they became engaged.
Bezos and Sanchez attended the inauguration ceremony of Donald Trump where Sanchez’s outfit was widely criticized for being too ‘risque’. Sanchez showed up to the event wearing an all-white outfit. Inside the Rotunda, she removed her fuzzy white coat to show off her Alexander McQueen suit featuring a white blazer and wide-leg trousers. Sanchez opted out of a blouse, instead revealing a matching white lace bra.
