The top team in the English Premier League looks to keep its distance from the rest of the pack, as Arsenal gets set to visit Tottenham Hotspur in another edition of the North London derby.
The rivalry between the Spurs and Gunners dates back to 1921, when the crosstown foes kickstarted a century-long battle as two of the standard bearers in England’s top division of football.
The clubs are heading in different directions leading up to their marquee matchup. Arsenal has been the top team in the Premiership for the last few months and has done enough to stay ahead of the best teams in the league.
Arsenal has had a little less rest compared to the Spurs, having played the Wolverhampton Wanderers this past Wednesday. Yet, the club has been rolling, earning points in 13 straight league matches, while also competing in the FA Cup and UEFA Champions League.
The Gunners come into Sunday with a five-point lead over Manchester City.
Tottenham is in the middle of a transition period. A long and tumultuous stretch of bad play has led to manager Thomas Frank being sacked, with the club hiring former Juventus coach Igor Tudor to manage the Spurs for the rest of the season.
The Spurs come into Sunday 16th in the table, just five points ahead of West Ham for 18th.
Arsenal has won four straight meetings with Tottenham, including a 4-1 win at Emirates Stadium in late November. The Gunners are 90-55-67 against the Spurs.
