When Hollywood celebrities spoke about the impact of Ozempic

Ozempic, the magical potion that the entertainment industry craves, has been gaining attention for its benefit: weight loss. The lifestyle drug that, once injected, would help regulate appetite and improve sugar levels. However, even if the drug may seem like a godsend gift, the side effects have the potential to cause life-threatening issues.
Celebrities have shared their experience in public about using the drug that helped them achieve drastic changes. While some are grateful for the drug that helped them look fit, others have advised not to engage in injecting the medication as it may cause damage to the bodily functions.
Let’s look at the celebrities who spoke about the impact of Ozempic.

Amy Schumer

Amy Schumer

Amy Schumer, a renowned comedian and actor, abandoned using the drug altogether after she was bedridden. She confessed in a Howard Stern interview that while the ‘miracle’ weight loss drug helped her lose 30 pounds (13.6 kgs), the consistent use led her to the disturbing side effects of vomiting and loss of energy. “I was vomiting, I had no energy—I couldn’t even lift my head off the pillow. So, what’s the point? He’d ask me to play tag, and I’d have to say, ‘I can’t.’ I was shrivelling,” Schumer expressed, vowing to never use ever again.

While she may have criticised Ozempic, Schumer recently praised Mounjaro (tirzepatide, another diabetic drug used for weight loss) for its better effects.

Stephen Fry

Stephen Fry

Stephen Fry, the ‘Blackadder II’ actor, revealed that he threw up five times a day after using the enchanted medication. One of the early users of Ozempic mentioned that the first week felt great as it gave ‘astonishing’ results. He not only avoided eating, but he also abstained from alcohol. However, he revealed in the River Cafe Table 4 podcast that as the injections happened, the side effects began, leading to him vomiting four to five times a day.

Sharon Osbourne

Sharon Osbourne

Sharon Osbourne, the American media personality, isn’t regretting her decision to take Ozempic. “It’s not a sin to use Ozempic if you have a weight problem, so why not talk about it?” she firmly exclaimed in a podcast with Howie Mandel. Furthermore, she revealed that the drug altered her metabolism in such a way that she wouldn’t be able to gain weight, as she went too far. Osbourne revealed that the first few weeks were nauseating; however, later the drug just made her lose her hunger. “I didn’t want to go this thin. It just happened,” she said.

James Corden

James Corden

James Corden, the British Talk Show Host, revealed that he tried to use Ozempic – but he stopped. He expressed that the drug was ineffective for him, because it reduces the hunger, thus helping to lose appetite. However, he rarely eats because of hunger, it’s the urge to eat that the drug could not change. “You’re looking at someone who’s eaten a king-sized Dairy Milk – and when I say king-sized, I mean the one you give someone for Christmas – in a carwash,” he further revealed in ‘This Life of Mine’ podcast.

Tracy Morgan

Tracy Morgan

Tracy Morgan, the ‘SNL’ comedian, doesn’t regret his weekly doses of Ozempic. “I take Ozempic every Thursday. It cuts my appetite in half,” he stated, according to E! Times. Furthermore, he even joked about his appetite, revealing that he only eats half a bag of Doritos. During an interview with Today, he claimed that he has a prescription and won’t let go of Ozempic – ever.

Nikki Glasser

Nikki Glasser

Nikki Glasser, the comedian who hosted ‘Golden Globes,’ stated that she loves Ozempic, in fact, advised the ‘girls’ to start using the diabetic drug. “I have no judgment. If you want to do Ozempic, hell yeah, girl. I want people to feel more comfortable talking about doing it, because I feel like there’s this shame,” she continued.
“The shame is only from thin people who want you to stay fat. That’s really where it’s coming from. They’re so mad that you’re getting thin now, because that’s all they have, right? You’re dynamic, you have a good personality, and they’re so mad,” she said on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Jameela Jamil and Sophie Turner called out Ozempic

Jameela Jamil

Jameela Jamil, ‘The Good Place’ actress, spoke about the Ozempic rodeo going on in Hollywood. Criticising the industry for opting to look ‘skinny,’ Jameela claimed she won’t be part of the cycle. “The amount of people in my industry just taking [Ozempix] to go from slim to super skinny, to finally achieve the obedient waif physique to fit the obedient sample sizes…. has been hard to watch. Especially for those of us who have fought off eating disorders. Who are they really doing it for?” she wrote in her Instagram post.

Sophie Turner

Sophie Turner, the ‘Game of Thrones’ actress, called out the Ozempic ads plastered on the subway walls in New York in her Instagram story. Previously, she confessed to having an eating disorder in an interview with Elle UK.

What is Ozempic?

For the unversed, Ozempic is a brand-name medication that contains Semaglutide, and is prescribed for people with type 2 diabetes (conditions applied). It belongs to the class of drugs called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists, and helps with blood vessel issues, kidney function, and blood sugar levels. However, the side effects are numerous. Mild effects may range from nausea, vomiting, to diarrhoea and abdominal pain, while serious effects may be gallbladder disease, thyroid cancer or tumours, damage to the vision, and low blood sugar, according to Healthline.
