Madrid is a solid betting favorite (-185) despite the projected absence of Mbappe with a knee injury. The club took a 1-0 win over Benfica in the first leg of their knockout debut matchups, strengthening its home-field advantage by defeating Benfica in Portugal. However, in the lone match that followed that win last week was a 2-1 setback to Osasuna in Madrid’s return to LaLiga play. Madrid currently sits in a runner-up position in LaLiga while still waiting to put its best foot forward in Champions League after going 5-0-3 in the league phase with 21 goals scored and 12 goals allowed.

Benfica was the 24th and final entry into the Champions League knockout tournament and posed a sizable challenge to Real Madrid in last week’s first leg. The Benfica defense limited the Madrid attack to seven shots on target and turned away six of them before ultimately falling, 1-0, on a Vinicius Junior goal in the 50th minute. Benfica is a third-place side in the Portuguese Liga standings in the regular season with a 16-7-0 record with 55 points and a plus-36 differential.
